First referral from REORG!
Tonight I had the pleasure of teaching my first student who was referred to me by the REORG organisation, a young woman by the name of Lisa. As part of her ongoing rehab regime, Lisa is now taking Jiu Jitsu classes and really enjoyed her first class and I'm looking forward to helping her get back on the road to full recovery.

Last night's class
'Twas the last class before Christmas at Checkmat Wimbledon last night, great fun was had by everyone, as we tweaked up our Americana's from side control and mount and passed Festive guard, wrestler's cradle style...........all good fun.

Filming at Checkmat Wimbledon!
Had a great time today with Will Henshaw from World of Martial Arts TV, who came down to do some filming at the gym; a small interview was recorded together with some techniques, looking forward to seeing the finished article when it gets released.

Last night's class
Huge thanks to my sponsors Omar Javed over at Grapple Kings for the awesome new ultra light competition Gi and to Harj Bains over at BAIN HQ for the equally awesome rash guard under the Gi :)
Thanks to this awesome apparel, I felt ten years younger in class last night and for the first time in many months, I actually managed to train with the lads for the whole session, without having to sit out, due to my creaky back and I had an awesome time with the lads.
Sessions like this usually come with a hefty price the morning after, when you can't get out of bed without reaching for the painkillers and getting your socks on in nigh on impossible; however today is one of those very rare good days for us veterans of the mats and this morning I emerged out of bed with very little post training aches, pains and tears, although I still have a sneaky feeling that the pain is in the post.
Looking forward to another good session tomorrow with the lads and just hope that I'm not pushing my luck too much; this post is a shout out to all my veteran grappling friends all around the world, who are still on the mats fighting the good fight...........Oooooss!

He is now the main editor for Flograppling...as if we needed a reason to boycott them further.
Any attempt to get information from him about the missing SEVENTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS is ignored and he has gone completely dark about it. Yet he peddles his Flograppling stuff like it never happened and we all don't know how much of a scam artist he is.
This guy should never do business in the BJJ world again - EVER.'

Training Camp over, ready for the English Open
The English Open Training Camp ended last night with another solid turnout, with one more chance for the lads to sharpen the iron before heading off to the University of East London on Saturday morning.
Seven weeks of hard training has come to an end and I'm proud of all my students that have turned up each week and given it their all to the cause and helped push the lads that will be competing this weekend.
It's been a real team effort getting the lads ready for battle and the best part is that everyone's Jiu Jitsu will have improved from the added intensity a training camp brings, so it's a win/win situation all round.

The English Open awaits.........
Another solid session last night down at the office, just one more class tomorrow before the lads head off to the University of East London at the weekend and test themselves against fellow white belts at the English Open.

The English Open awaits............
Looking forward to the English Open next weekend as five students take the plunge and step up to compete and lay it all on the line, testing themselves on the mats against their peers.
Been working the guys hard over the last four weeks, whipping them into shape, with a team effort from all at the club; those that aren't competing are all part of the team effort to get students ready for competition and as a result in these training camps, everyone's Jiu Jitsu improves as a result, so it's a win/win situation all round.

Lucas Leite at London Fight Factory
Huge thanks to Luiz Manxinha Ribeiro for continually bringing the best of the best to London Fight Factory :)
Last night, I had the chance to learn from multiple times world champion Lucas Leite and he didn't disappoint; drills aplenty and some wicked half guard into x guard transitions to add to my game.
You never stop learning Jiu Jitsu, you can train til the day you die and still there's a myriad of things you don't even know about and that's what keeps me on the mats at my ripe old age.

Last night's class
Another superb session last night, ending the month with a busy class and plenty of hard work; we now have another student that is willing to step up and lay it on the line at the English Open, taking the total up to three so far, with a few more umming and ahhing, so fingers crossed we have a healthy number heading over to the Docklands at the end of next month.
Next class tomorrow night and the start of a new month, four weeks filled with drilling, competition training and lots of sweat. What's not to like about that?
We were joined last night by the young blue belt gold medallist Kev Solomovitch, who took four wins to collect the bling at the London Warriors Cup at the weekend, so a huge all round congrats to Kev from myself and all the lads.

English Open
Looking forward to this event in November, as two of my students so far have registered for the competition, which I hope in turn motivates more of my students to step out of their comfort zones and step up.
A training camp for the event started this Monday, with plenty of competition specific drills, plus the good old Iron Man and Shark Tanks to really help boost everyone's cardio, stamina and heart.
We will be there on the 25th November for the white belt division, at the new location, the University of East London, plus guys from Checkmat Croydon and London Fight Factory too, so if you know me, come over and say hello on the day and we can all enjoy a great day of competitive Jiu Jitsu.

Last night's class
The Checkmat Wimbledon English Open Training Camp started in earnest last night, as the lads prepare for battle on November 25th at the English Open at the University of East London.
All the lads brought hard work, sweat and a never say die attitude to the mats and I'm really looking forward to pushing everyone to their limits and beyonds over the next few weeks. Stripes night
Hard work pays off..........huge congrats

Arm Drag Wing Chun Style
The arm drag is one of my all time favourite moves, both for Sport Jiu Jitsu and when I'm at work on the doors; it is a portal to a world of pain and misery when used against a drunken idiot at work and a great way to close the distance and score a takedown in a grapppling match.

Blue belt for Juliette!

Faixa Preta - Year 1
Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of my promotion to black belt, at London Fight Factory; to say how time flies is an understatement and to this day, I still find it hard to believe I am now a BJJ black belt. Looking forward to spending the rest of my training life as a black belt and rack up a few stripes on my belt and step out on the mats and compete before my body stops me from doing so.

Squad Training 2 @ New Wave Academy
Another monster training session yesterday, as students from Checkmat Wimbledon and London Fight Factory took a trip to join Colin Ndawike and his army at Checkmat Croydon, located at the New Wave Academy.
Black belts Tiago Valente and Luiz Ribeiro put everyone through their paces, as the London Open looms ever closer next weekend; huge thanks to Colin for inviting my students and myself to the session and to Luiz and Tiago for the excellent coaching and to all the regular faces on the mats and to all the new friends I made yesterday.

Squad training at London Fight Factory!
Yesterday, four teams became one at London Fight Factory; LFF students were joined by fellow warriors from Golders Green gym, New Wave Academy and Checkmat Wimbledon. Everyone on the mats where there for one goal, to help prepare students for battle at the IBJJF London Open in October.
Lots of hard work and sweat was produced, as well as new friends and training partners and with another squad session arranged for New Wave Academy before the big competition, things can only get better for all involved.
Thanks to Luiz Ribeiro for setting up this killer session and a big shout to everyone I met yesterday, look forward to seeing you all again soon :)

Slo mo vid!
Found a couple of slo mo vids, filmed back when I was a brown belt; I decided to embrace modern technology and filmed a few self defence and BJJ vids and promptly lost them all, or so I thought.
The first one is a self defence sequence I've used many a time at work and I've enjoyed using it every time and I'll post the other videos over the next few weeks.

Caio Terra at London Fight Factory!
Caio Terra was back at LFF last night and delivered a masterclass on the half guard and wrestling coach Jacob Harman was also in the building and took the no gi class, before Caio hit the mats.
