Dana White - UFC 196 Co Main Event Recap

DVD review - Escapes from anywhere by Bernardo Faria

Summary – a comprehensive four DVD set, packed with techniques designed to get you out of the stickiest of situations
In the world of BJJ instructionals, there are thousands of sets covering all aspects of the Jiu Jitsu game, from closed to open guard and all their combinations; guard passing from every position, side control attacks and defences, submissions and many more.  There is a huge market out there for these DVD’s, with new releases coming out thick and fast every month.

With regards to escaping all these situations and positions, there does not seem to be that many on the market; way back in 2006 I reviewed a DVD release from black belt Gustavo Machado, titled ‘The Great escapes and Counters’ and since then DVD’s like this have been pretty thin on the ground.

Fast forward to the present day and black belt Bernardo Faria redresses this issue with a whopping four DVD set, covering, as the title suggests, escapes from anywhere and you won’t be disappointed.

Discs 1,2 and 3 have twelve chapters and disc 4 thirteen chapters and cover positions such as mount escape principles and escapes; side control  and north/south escapes; kimura escapes; arm bar and omoplata escapes; back escapes; submission escapes and much more.

This DVD set is ideal for students and instructors alike and can be used for reference points for the instructor, as Bernardo crams a lot of technical instruction into each chapter and is great for an injured student who wants to stay in the BJJ loop, where they can be sat at home on the couch, watching the techniques and absorbing the technical details from Bernardo.

This is a great DVD set to add to your ever expanding collection, ideal for a rainy day or an injured day – available from

War of Words - Mc Gregor hits back!

Aldo calls out Mc Gregor - on Facebook!

In the oh so macho world of MMA, it's nice to see fighters making the most of social media outlets and calling each other out to fight; what happened to the good old call out in the Octagon, full of posturing, peacocking and profanities?
Plenty of the middle finger too don't forget, cap on backwards, givin' it the gangstah swaggah and all that. Real macho shit going down.
For Jose Aldo however (assuming it really is Aldo and not some phantom keyboard warrior), he let his fingers do the typing and came out with this call out cry:-
‘Conor McGregor I’ll see you at ‪#‎UFC200‬, your Cinderella fantasy is over. Nowhere to run to now- you’re gonna have to give me my rematch, you pussy!!’
Mc Gregor, consider yourself called out dude, what's your next move??

London Winter Open!

Matches will now be underway at the London Open; I'll be there real soon to lend my support to the Checkmat family, as they battle it out against the best of UK and beyond and look to repeat their team trophy win from the Autumn Open (they say Fall, we say Autumn).

It won't be much of a vocal support thanks to a pesky chest and throat infection I picked up last week, just about shaking it off, still left with an irritating couch, so will have to be the consumate English gent and clap lightly when each Checkmat fighter scores a point or wins a match.  As you do.

Checkmat bigger than you!

Wrestling or Judo for BJJ?

Here's an article to accompany the long running discussion that's all over the Internet and chat rooms - should you add wrestling or Judo to your BJJ game? Over on the website, a wrestler and a Judoka give their sides to the argument, which leaves you the choice - to single leg or Uchimata?
